Rioja wine is an international benchmark among Spanish wines, walking hand-in-hand with the country's haute cuisine as it consolidates the prestige of Spain and its products.

Fifteen Spanish cooks, considered "great icons of a prodigious decade in Spanish gastronomy," were paid tribute at the Madrid Fusión food summit. During the closing ceremony of the conference, they toasted with a glass of Rioja and received the 'Friend of Rioja' distinction from the president of the Control Board of this reputed Wine Region. Sergi Arola, Juan Mari and Elena Arzak, Martín Berasategui, Alberto Chicote, Quique Dacosta, Manolo de la Osa, Dani García, Andoni Luis Aduriz, Joan and Jordi Roca, Pepe Rodríguez Rey, Marc Singla, Pedro Subijana and Marcelo Tejedor.

The president of the Control Board pointed out that Rioja wanted to participate in this well-deserved tribute to such an array of great cooking artists "to recognise the positive influence that the success of Spanish cuisine is having on the promotion of Spanish wines in general and Rioja in particular."
